Abe Foxman,  from the Anti-Defamation League:

“Sen. Mitchell is fair. He’s been meticulously even-handed,” said Abraham Foxman, national director of the Anti-Defamation League. “But the fact is, American policy in the Middle East hasn’t been ‘even handed’ — it has been supportive of Israel when it felt Israel needed critical U.S. support.

“So I’m concerned,” Foxman continued. “I’m not sure the situation requires that kind of approach in the Middle East.”

Point the first: Good thing that it’s out in the open that American policy in the Middle East has been not even handed, but supportive of Israel. It’s good that people stop pretending otherwise. Pretending otherwise causes a lot of issues, and warps the vision of many who would like to think they are acting fairly and with noble intentions.

Point the second: Being even-handed is a bad approach when looking for conflict resolutions? Really?

I am happy if these attitudes (demands, in a way) are seen for what they are. There really is a lot of -willful or not- ignoring going on in terms of USA-Israel relations, particularly in the context of Palestine. The more things are talked about seriously, without deceit, the better for all parties involved. It is also refreshing to see ADL hard-liners be this candid about what and how they really see the Israel-Palestine issue.

Still, some motherfucking nerve to say that.
